Magnets, Boon or Bane(NOT the Batman villain

So, I started watching Mad Men, from episode one, I was struck by the cavalier use of cigarettes, Dry Cleaning bags and lack of seat belt use.
And it struck me that they really didn't know any better. So now I wonder what future generations, if any will look back and marvel at our cavalier use of say, magnets.
I mean, we really don’t know what the effects of them on our health are (we use them for MRI’s and the like).
We know that they (magnets) can mess up electronics permanently, and though our systems have been toughened up by years of TV and Radio waves, and now Cellular towers and High Tension lines are flying around mostly unregulated as well (Anyone remember a link between Leukemia and the power lines over where the kids played?
In 100 years, will people gawk at the way we do things?
“They let their KIDS play with MAGNETS?!?” they might say.
or
“They wore them as JEWELRY? And they wore them in their SHOES?? Didn't they realize what they were doing to their energy fields?” (We call them CHAKRAS today).

I may be premature in this and it could be that magnets (which I have nothing against, really) are perfectly safe. In the meantime I will keep them away from electronics and keep them on the fridge (Except now I wonder what they do to the food…..).
